Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday 2019

Palm Sunday, which is one of the 12 great feasts in the Orthodox Church, is the celebration of the entry of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. This is also the Sunday before Pascha (Resurrection of Christ) and alerts us that we are about to enter Holy Week, which begins the evening of Palm Sunday. This is not a coincidence in our Church Calendar. In the Gospels, Christ’s entry into Jerusalem marks the beginning of a series of events which occur before His resurrection. These events (Mystical Supper, Crucifixion, Burial…) are commemorated during Holy Week and lead up, as in the Gospels, to the bright and glorious resurrection of Christ. All are welcome to celebrate Palm Sunday on April 21st at St Luke the Blessed Surgeon Russian Orthodox Church! Confession will start at 8:30am with the Hours and Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:00am. …Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that commeth in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest! (Matthew 21-9)

Orthodox Easter / Pascha 2019

Join us at St Luke the Blessed Surgeon Russian Orthodox Church in celebrating the bright and glorious resurrection of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ! The parish priest, Fr Demetrio, will be available to all who wish to bless their Pascha baskets and do confession starting at 1pm on Saturday, April 27th. The Paschal service will begin at 11:30pm on Saturday, April 27th, with Midnight Office followed by the procession around the church, and the Divine Liturgy. All are welcome to stay after the service for the festal banquet in the church hall!   Orthodox Easter commemorates Jesus’ resurrection three days after his crucifixion and death. Following his death, he was removed from the cross and hastily buried in a tomb. On Sunday, it was discovered that Jesus’ tomb was empty and angels informed onlookers that Jesus had risen.
