Dear parishoners, visitors and new comers, on June 9th and 10th Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan will be visiting our parish and serving both for Vigil on Saturday evening (time to be determined) and Liturgy on Sunday morning (9:30am). Please come early on Sunday, as the vesting of the Bishop will start promptly at 9:30am. Confession will be available during Vigil and Sunday morning before Liturgy. Since our patronal feast day (feast day of St Luke, who our chapel is dedicated too) falls on Monday June 11th, with the blessing of Bishop Nicholas, we will be celebrating our patronal feast day on the Sunday of All Saints of Russia, June 10th.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday 2019

Palm Sunday, which is one of the 12 great feasts in the Orthodox Church, is the celebration of the entry of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. This is also the Sunday before Pascha (Resurrection of Christ) and alerts us that we are about to enter Holy Week, which begins the evening of Palm Sunday. This is not a coincidence in our Church Calendar. In the Gospels, Christ’s entry into Jerusalem marks the beginning of a series of events which occur before His resurrection. These events (Mystical Supper, Crucifixion, Burial…) are commemorated during Holy Week and lead up, as in the Gospels, to the bright and glorious resurrection of Christ. All are welcome to celebrate Palm Sunday on April 21st at St Luke the Blessed Surgeon Russian Orthodox Church! Confession will start at 8:30am with the Hours and Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:00am. …Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that commeth in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest! (Matthew 21-9)

Orthodox Easter / Pascha 2019

Join us at St Luke the Blessed Surgeon Russian Orthodox Church in celebrating the bright and glorious resurrection of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ! The parish priest, Fr Demetrio, will be available to all who wish to bless their Pascha baskets and do confession starting at 1pm on Saturday, April 27th. The Paschal service will begin at 11:30pm on Saturday, April 27th, with Midnight Office followed by the procession around the church, and the Divine Liturgy. All are welcome to stay after the service for the festal banquet in the church hall!   Orthodox Easter commemorates Jesus’ resurrection three days after his crucifixion and death. Following his death, he was removed from the cross and hastily buried in a tomb. On Sunday, it was discovered that Jesus’ tomb was empty and angels informed onlookers that Jesus had risen.

All-Night Vigil / Всенощное бдение

All-Night Vigil is the standard Saturday evening service and usually consists of Vespers, Matins, and the First Hour—though on certain feasts, it includes Great Compline instead of Vespers. In parishes, Vigils are less strenuous than those conducted in the monasteries, but the structure remains the same. The Vespers often contains a Litia with the blessing of the bread—this is always the case on Great Feasts.   All-Night Vigil / Всенощное бдение: Saturdays, 5PM Main Sanctuary: 1301 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 5, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060 We will still be following guidelines for Covid-19 safety so please come with masks. If you do not have a mask, we have some for sale at the church. There will be plenty of room in the church for social distancing. If you have any Covid-19 symptoms, please rest at home.

Hours & Divine Liturgy / Часы и Божественная литургия

The Divine Liturgy is the primary worship service of the Orthodox Church. The Divine Liturgy is a eucharistic service. It contains two parts: the Liturgy of the Catechumens, sometimes called the Liturgy of the Word, at which the Scriptures are proclaimed and expounded; and the Liturgy of the Faithful, sometimes called the Liturgy of the Eucharist, in which the gifts of bread and wine are offered and consecrated; the faithful then partake of them in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The Church teaches that the gifts truly become the body and blood of Jesus Christ,. The Prothesis (or Proskomedia), the service of preparing the holy gifts, can be considered a third part which precedes the Liturgy proper.   Hours & Divine Liturgy / Часы и Божественная литургия: Sundays, 10AM Main Sanctuary: 1301 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 5, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060 We will still be following guidelines for Covid-19 safety so please come with masks.
